He’s done it. Alexander Zverev has won the US Open. The match lasted 3 hours and 33 minutes, and he is now the second German to achieve this feat, following Boris Becker in 1989.

Finland shares an external border with Russia stretching approximately 1,340 km, which has currently been closed by Finland to prevent Russian agents from infiltrating the country. Following various pointed threats from the Kremlin, Finland has now lifted its self-imposed ban on nuclear weapons and could therefore allow nuclear weapons from the US or France to be stationed on its territory as a deterrent.

And what’s Donald Trump up to? Things in Iran just aren’t going the way he’d imagined. Having declared on several occasions that the Iranians have been defeated – whilst they, for their part, see things quite differently – his popularity in the US is waning. Now he apparently wants to make himself more popular again by scrapping the tariff he imposed on Irish whisky. Perhaps making it easier for his voters to get their hands on a drink will help.

It is not surprising, but it is nonetheless very alarming. Whilst the CDU won the local elections in Lower Saxony despite losing seats, and the SPD came second despite also losing ground, the far-right AfD party has once again gained a significant number of votes here too. It seems to help the AfD that it is backed by the despots Trump and Putin. Another advantage is certainly that they can make many promises. So far, though, the AfD has offered nothing but grand rhetoric. And in the cases of Trump and Iran, for example, we can see that grand rhetoric cannot solve everything.
