Some positive news from the banking sector: Deutsche Bank has published its quarterly results and, lo and behold, it has exceeded expectations; the bank also believes it is well positioned for the year as a whole. However, there are still economic legacy issues from the past that it has yet to overcome.

Warnings of low water levels remain in place for waterways across Germany. Although there has been some rain over the past few days, there is still a clear overall shortfall, and this is naturally reflected in the river levels.

Brazil has held its election and the result is somewhat surprising. The incumbent president, Lula, has won the election and his challenger, Flavio Bolsonaro, has come off second best; according to initial reports, he intended to face the allegations against him in Brazil. It has now emerged, however, that he appears to have fled via Argentina to Ecuador. The US has reportedly issued visas for him and his family. Mr Trump is said to have stated that he would support his entry into the US. At the same time, the Brazilian government is reportedly investigating him for money laundering.

Well, Mr Trump is certainly attracting even more criminal elements to his side. Everyone can judge for themselves which they find worse: allegations of rape or money laundering.

Enjoy the sunshine.
