Is there a bit of football fever starting to take hold? It doesn’t really feel like it yet. With all his escalations – whether verbal or military – Trump isn’t exactly making the US, and therefore the World Cup, look very appealing. Nor is there much of a sense of the FIFA Peace Prize vibe. You can’t help but feel that when it comes to anything to do with Trump, Infantino and the World Cup, it’s all about the big money. Infantino, who took office about 10 years ago and spoke of transparency and credibility, has failed to prove to the public that he has achieved anything in that direction. In fact, the public perception is now that it is more corrupt than ever before.
It has been clear from media reports for several days now that the ceasefire between the US and Iran is not really holding; experts now fear that it may come to a complete end.
And what’s going on here with us and our government? Over the weekend, rumours suddenly began to circulate that Mr Merz was simply being replaced by Hendrik Wüst, the popular Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia. ‘It’s all nonsense,’ says Mr Wüst, insisting that he is and will remain Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia.
We hope the summer weather continues here and wish you a pleasant working week.
