That's how it is on the stock market, a group reports a slump in profits, but on the stock market it looks different. It's about the Mercedes-Benz Group, the German car manufacturers have been having difficulties for some time now, it's the competition from China that is costing margins and of course the tariffs in the USA. It's clear that when one company is happy, another suffers. And so it is the European carmakers at the moment, including of course the German carmakers. Despite all the difficulties, the Group has reported a very good quarter and Mercedes has also been able to keep its margins stable, which of course pleases shareholders.
It looks as if some Americans have realised that behind Trump's grand slogans there is often only his own interest in increasing his wealth and the wealth of his party friends. At least there is a recent poll in the US that says Trump is more unpopular than he has been since his election - hopefully he realises this himself.
Our neighbours, the Dutch, will do it again. They have an electoral system that allows for many parties and so it could end up that four or even five parties have to come together to form a government. And even in the liberal Netherlands, the spectre of right-wing parties is haunting the country with Geert Wilders.
We wish you a pleasant rest of the working week and remain optimistic.
