The weather is still quite pleasant, but it feels too warm for the time of year. But that's probably just down to climate change and we'll just have to put up with it. It seems that global politics doesn't really want to intervene. Their own interests are too important to the decision-makers, and so they just let a few islands sink.
What's the latest on the alleged negotiations for a ceasefire in Ukraine? Nothing really, Trump is trying to reach an agreement but doesn't realise that his Russian interlocutors have no interest in doing so. Putin's people prefer to publish information that is intended to stir up discontent among the Western states and blame the evil Western states for the continuation of the fighting. Presumably because they don't simply let Putin's army take over Ukraine, but supply weapons for its defence.
There is a sign of life from Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. Star coach Pep Guardiola apparently underestimated the Leverkusen team, rotated heavily and only fielded a B team, resulting in a 2-0 defeat against a strong Leverkusen side in the fifth game of the league phase yesterday. It was particularly bitter for Guardiola, as it was his 100th game as coach of Manchester City in the top flight. A win would have been fitting.
Success would also be an advantage for Labour Minister Bas, who wanted to defend the pension package during a speech at the employers' association, but was interrupted by a few laughs from the audience. Here, too, it remains exciting to see how the government will solve the problem of treating current and future pensioners fairly. A thought-provoking idea might be to forego a current pension increase and not to spend the money saved, but to invest it for pension payments in the future.
All we can do is try to make as much provision as possible ourselves in order to be secure for retirement.
